Turtle Verne and his woodland friends discover that a tall green thing has appeared in the middle of their home — it's a hedge. R.J., a devious raccoon, explains that

beyond the hedge is the world where creatures called humans leave tin cans full of fish and other food in big canisters, ripe for the taking. Verne doesn't want to go, but

R.J. convinces everyone that there's the “gateway to the good life”. As they get closer and closer to humans, however, their comfortable lives in the woods appear to be threatened...

Over the Hedge is engaging and endearing family entertainment.
